Nomad Visa

The Digital Nomad Visa allows non-EU/EEA remote workers and freelancers to live and legally work from Spain while being employed by a non-Spanish company or having international clients. It’s part of Spain’s Start-Up Law to attract international talent.

Eligibility typically includes:

Non-EU/EEA citizenship. A job contract with a foreign company or proof of freelance work.

At least 3 months of employment history or client contracts.

Proof of higher education or relevant professional experience.

Clean criminal record and private health insurance.

The Digital Nomad Visa is initially valid for up to 1 year if applied from abroad, and up to 3 years if applied from within Spain. It is renewable for an additional 2 years, allowing for a maximum stay of 5 years.
Yes, family members (spouse, partner, children) can join as dependents. You’ll need to demonstrate sufficient financial means to support them, and they’ll need their own documentation for residency permits.
Yes, digital nomads may be subject to Spanish taxes. However, under the Beckham Law, qualifying individuals can benefit from a reduced tax rate (around 24%) on income up to €600,000 for up to 6 years. Tax residency starts if you stay over 183 days per year.

You can apply:

  • From abroad: At your nearest Spanish consulate.
  • From within Spain: While on a tourist visa or as a resident, by applying for a residence permit at a local immigration office.

The application includes proof of employment, income, health insurance, a criminal background check, and more.

 

You must show a monthly income of at least 200% of the Spanish minimum wage, which is around €2,334/month (2025 estimate). Additional income is required for dependents.
Yes, but only up to 20% of your total income can come from Spanish clients. The main source of income must be from companies or clients outside of Spain.
